Big plasma TVs banned?

    I'm not sure how I feel about government introducing such legislation.

    On the one hand, the larger goals of the society probably should be taken into account.

    On the other hand, the rights of free-thinking individuals should not be trifled with.

    Perhaps some sort of tax to make them very expensive is the best solution.

    They should just do what Austin Energy used to do (and probably still do), where the first amount of KWH are at a certain rate, then after that, they jack up the rate. They should do this, except make many more steps so the really big power users get reamed.

    So my friend with six refrigerators for all his venison is okay, but a single plasma TV isn't?

    A clothes dryer uses 4-6 kW of power, an electric water heater draws 3.5-4 kW and a washing machine draws 3.5 kW if it heats the water (in contrast with 1.5 kW if it doesn't). Maybe we should start with the stuff that everyone owns rather than the stuff that almost nobody can afford.
