Being an old guy its pretty easy for me to watch and hear a coach from many years back screaming wrap up and drive to the ground. Lots of these kids today are looking for the sportscenter highlight instead of sound fundamental defense. Its hard to drive that home without benching kids who dont do it. Same old same old, no consequences, no change. Hookem and OU still sux!!!
I see it at all levels - high school, college, NFL. Basic tackling technique - head across the ball, wrap up, drive your feet - is not taught anymore. Mack Brown was right - there is a tackling epidemic and it's been going on for a long time. What I cannot understand is how these coaches can watch the film and not see the problem.
