How about this moron advocate for my daughter who is top 10% of her class taking all AP/Pre AP classes, from a heavy tax paying home, involved in way too many activities yet can't get into UT which she's wanted to attend since early enough to understand. Frustrating to no end!

I assume that your daughter is white, cisgender, straight, a US citizen, and non-Muslim. That's not who UT is out to help, and they sure as hell aren't out to help someone from a "heavy tax paying home," which obviously means you make a reasonably good income. Way too much privilege. The only thing that would make her less desirable to them is if she was a guy.

I'm not saying it's impossible for someone like your daughter to get into UT, but she's got a hell of a lot working against her. She's got the top ten percent (now six percent) guaranteeing admission to a huge number of kids from crappier schools who are less qualified. To get her into a non-guaranteed admission slot, she's got affirmative action screwing with her. As liberal as California is, it has far more sensible admissions policies than Texas does.

f**k UT and their admissions. I kind of hate to say that, but there it is. My youngest son was admitted, but we never even considered enrolling him after inquiring about financial aid packages. We were told pretty much point blank - we have so many people wanting to get in, we don't need to offer school level financial aid (other than loans). And yet, these ******** are constantly calling me begging for donations.

So the youngest is following his older brother to UNT, where he has a 4 year full ride. Too bad my alma mater is so ****** up, but I'll take a free college education for my kids over a legacy enrollment any day of the week.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

cisgender? Had to look that up. I know about cis / trans isomers from chemistry class. I guess if there is transgender, there must be the opposite. Brave New World we live in.

Go to UT for grad school, even if for a 2 year masters.

Maybe, but the kid has the potential to earn a Master's at UNT in 4 or 4.5 years because of the number of credits he transferred in. There's a dual enrollment program there (for up to 9 hours of undergrad and Master's dual credits) that's kind of hard to beat. Also not sure if UT even has a construction engineering program. Maybe we will look as it gets closer to nut-cutting time.

Had the same problem with my eldest son at my alma mater. Top 98% ACT score with enough AP credits to start school as a Sophomore didn't get him in to U of Washington. Silver lining...he was able to get into a preferred major (Bio-Engineering) that would have been a longshot at UW due to how competitive that school has become for anything but liberal arts degrees.

The CII is in Austin (Construction Industry Institute), which is kind of a big deal. Also check out the program at the Pickle research center.

Same people, saying both things, at same time --

"Give up your guns, wingnuts. You don't need them."

    and

"Ban Christians, conservatives, and Republicans from your stores. Spit in their faces. Attack their families. Make them afraid, because they're all Nazis."

They suck just as much as those using their antics as a trigger for their own side. If you don't think conservatives have their own "crazies" venture to the places that JoeFan gets his information from. Reddit and 4Chan. Not saying this particular individual is fake but JoeFan posted many fake accounts in the past (example: BostonAntifa was a Russian account which he posted many times.).

These schools have delusions of grandeur. The reality is that where you go to college just isn't as important as they think it is. People who are motivated and work hard can be good at what they do and succeed even if they don't go to a big or famous school. I'm not saying it's irrelevant, but UT needs people like your kid a lot more than your kid needs UT.

No doubt. My ex filed an appeal after our divorce to have me declared her husband for life on religious grounds. I'm not kidding either. They just ruled against her ten days ago. Pemberton wrote the opinion. She said the no-fault divorce laws of Texas infringed upon her religious rights. So, ironically, my Conservatism really kicks in on that separation between church and state. That's probably why I consider myself to be a Democrat.

There are lots of extremists on the right besides the Westboro Church types (and my ex). Nazi's and the KKK are the two most obvious. But this gender thing is really coming on strong. It used to be that everyone wanted freedom to do their thing (keep morality out of the bedroom). There is now an element that is gaining steam with their attempts to completely rewire the human race in terms of gender.

They bear watching. But if you say anything AT ALL then you will be attacked mercilessly. Ruined.

It hasn't been about freedom to do your own thing in several years. That changed when we crossed over from getting rid of sodomy laws to making gay marriage a court-imposed law of the land.

That's correct. And the only time your college will matter to an employer is on obtaining your first job. After that, subsequent employers will care a lot more about your job performance than where you went to school.

I am sorry you had such an obsessed wife.

The KKK was founded to drive Republicans out of office in the south including many black Republican office holders.

Nazis are in fact left wing socialists that wanted strong central government.

We have many over zealous right wingers but the KKK and Nazis are not among them.

I agree but can tell you that the companies that everyone wants to work for value certain programs at certain schools. For example, if you want to work for Google then you increase your chances getting a graduate degree from MIT or Stanford rather than Nebraska.

I know it's a personal preference, but I know of nobody lamenting the fact that they don't work for Google. Of course, the people I deal with the majority of the time own their own companies.

In the United States (in my opinion), the Nazi's and the KKK are right wing.

Those hundreds gathered in Charlottesville chanting "blood and soil" weren't celebrating liberals.

They had their roots in the Democratic party but the parties switched when the White Southerners felt abandoned by the Civil Rights movement, originally supported by Republicans. The parties would have been better off swapping names rather than members.
