Would someone be willing to post a summary of our early commits and high profile junior day attendees? Someone has done this in previous years and I appreciated it very much, as well as others who don't follow recruiting very closely this early in the process.

Feel free to add everyone.
I mentioned it in one of the Gilbert threads but I assume the attendance for Lake Travis games this year in Austin will be up from last year, eh? Given that he and Paden are Burnt Orange bound and all. I can picture the stands with more of that hue of shirt. There will be many reports on performances and excitement.
a bit more info on these guys added to jt09's post: Commits Garrett Gilbert, QB, 6' 3" 185, Lake Travis nat #2 QB prospect, #12 overall, TX #1/#2 Jr yr rush 96/400/6TD pass 359/555 64.7 4826 52TD/12INT absolute stud #2 (arguably #1) prostyle QB out of the country this year. Chris Whaley, RB, 6' 3" 220, Madisonville nat #8 prospect, #65 oa, TX #1/#8 hoss of a RB with size/speed. suspect he will move up in the national rankings this year to borderline 5 star Jr yr rush 261/2119 8.1 28TD rec 5/143 28.6 3TD Greg Timmons, WR, 6'3 195, Aldine nat #14 prospect, #69 oa, TX #1/#10 Jr yr rec 41/704 17.2 6TD Marcus Davis, DB, 6' 1" 185, League City, TX #1/#15 superstud DB who is a borderline top 100 guy Garrett Porter, OL, 6' 6" 308, Odessa, TX # 5/#30 Paden Kelley, OL, 6'6" 285, Lake Travis, TX #6/31 the OL guys are big and tough, and are great anchors for the future. Offered: Alex Okafor, DE top guy in the state. we're the favorite. expect him to be a horn in the end. Jamarkus McFarland, DT national top #5 recruit for sure. huge need for us. we lead, and rumors have been floating about a commit all day. we'll see. Russell Sheppard, QB/ATH no need to say anything about this guy.. the videos speak for themselves. the gilbert thing is likely in his head.. will be interesting to see what happens. sounds like he'll be back for the 2nd jr day. Not offered: Emory Blake, WR local kid without an offer, but i think he'll get one soon. another stud. all in all, a great start to 2009
We also offered Pratt but he will take visits to LSU and OU first, will probably sign on signing day.
Wow 4 guys listed as #1 at their position in-state. And 3-4 listed as likely Rivals top 100 guys. 1 five star and likely 5 four star players. Mack getting 2 OT prospects early is huge. Depth should really start to improve in 09. Hopefully Timmons will help in landing Loston. McFarland is a must get guy. With current needs at DT he should hopefully see the opportunity for early playing time as well. I've only heard good things about Okafor and if he pulls the trigger that will be huge. If Loston, McFarland, and Okafor jump on board this will be an amazing class no matter what happens after that.
Scary that Southern Cal already has 6 nat'l top 100 commits. Wonder if they are still paying players....
USC will continue to have "no idea" that boosters are paying their players until the NCAA does something about it.
hornpharmd, to be as unbiased as possible, this is how i see it: gilbert is the #1 pro style QB in the state if not the nation whaley is the #1 RB recruit in the state timmons will be #1 or #2 in the state at WR davis is likely not the #1 DB in the state, but he's up there in the discussion. loston is a monster at S, though rivals tends to not give 5 stars frequently to S prospects (remember the debate in 04 re: kelson). as for loston, don't hold your breath. his hatred of all things UT in interviews makes a commitment unlikely, especially if we end up losing shepard. my bigger worry is aggy coaches, rod davis, and loston talking timmons out of coming to ut, though that's unlikely. mcfarland is clearly need #1 left on the board, a bona fide tommie harris type of force coming out of HS. i hope we can keep LSU out of his ear, but i suspect he will sign with us. again, i think okafor will be a horn in the end. i expect an 06/07 type of class this year. it won't be a 02 type class no matter what people want to rave about here. we just don't have the numbers. of course, the 02 class lost a lot to attrition, so after all is said and done, who knows.. 09 could be the best ever when we look back 5 years from now
Attendance at LT can't go up anymore. Most of the recent games have been sold out if I remember correctly.
UPDATE - 2/11/2007: - Garrett Gilbert - QB - LSR100 #2 - Chris Whaley - RB - LSR100 #8 - Greg Timmons - WR - LSR100 #10 - Thomas Ashcraft - OL - LSR100 #13 - Marcus Davis - DB - LSR100 #15 - Garrett Porter - OL - LSR100 #30 - Paden Kelly - OL - LSR100 #31
man these kids are getting bigger and bigger. All 3 OL so far are 6-6 or 6-5. QB is 6-3. RB is 6-3. WR is 6-3. Even DB is 6-1.
I know that OU desperately wanted Ashcroft and TImmons... Good gets for u guys. You are off to a hell of a start...
Is someone willing to update this with our most recent batch of commits? I have to admit that I don't know much about most of them.
Four new commitments this weekend (now at 11 total). DB -- Eryon Barnett (no indication of any offers other than Texas. However, looked at by the likes of Penn St., LSU and OU. Those who have seen him play are very excited about this Euless Trinity prospect. His coach calls him a lock-down corner). DT/DE -- Kyle Kriegel (LSR #64, kid has a nice frame to put on weight if we want a DT. No indication of other offers, but looked at by LSU and Aggy loves(d) him. Reports are that he dominated his 2A competition.) DE --Dominique Jones (Offers from Aggy, Okie Aggy and TCU. DE all the way. Nice continuation of the Kilgore pipeline) LB -- Patrick Nkwopara (No offers other than Texas. Both faster than and shorter than Teddy Lehman)
Nkwopara is actually faster than Teddy Lehman backpedaling, which is still pretty darned fast. Of course, he's not faster than Lehman in a dead sprint. Only Jordy Nelson and Hermes the Greek messenger god are even close.
The same Teddy Lehman that got traded or cut yesterday? The one that has laid a big fat egg in the NFL? That one?
