Wait . . . are you guys saying that they took up the grass and put in field turf. Why are we just hearing of this?
YeaTexas, are you funnin' or being serious? But, just in case, look at the 'A', one leg is wider that the other. same goes for the 'X'.
Has the back of godzillatron been covered yet? Does anyone know the timeframe or design their going to us on it?
This week, they installed some steel beams at the top of the back of Godzillatron. I assume they're part of the backing. A few months ago someone found the design on the back will be an orange longhorn logo on a white background. There's also a picture on the project sign that shows there to be some work on the side (depth of the screen) with block letters TEXAS running down the side. It's all supposed to be done by the start of the season.
Ahhh! They're putting fake grass in DKR?!? The sliding pits at the Disch are actually fake grass too?!? When are we going to build out the south EZ?!? Where is a picture of that model of the stadium with south endzone built?!? Can we put that model in my house? Better yet... in my office, so I can brag to my co-workers how awesome it will be? Why haven't we named our defense yet?!? When is Corey Redding ever going to play LB?!? Why is our offense soooo predictable?!? Why don't we ever wear orange pants?!? Who thought up the stupid Big 12 tie-braker, or the BCS in general?!? Is OU or A&M our biggest rival?!? Mack Brown got a signing bonus on his birthday?!? Who allowed that?!? Have I covered all of the usual rants? I even got a baseball one in there!
To ease some of the color concerns, Glenn took a few pictures yesterday from the NW "gap" that he asked me to post.
it is a very intense color. the shots are unmodified and the camera is pretty reliable wrt color. what i'm looking at here is pretty close to my memory of the color. i don't think it is ideal, but it really looks good in person. i'm glad zuerst mentioned the cone. i hadn't paid any attention to that, but the pretty accurate rendering of the color of the traffic cone tends to further validate the coloring in my opinion.
Nice pics!! The field looks fabulous. Burnt orange is a tough color to duplicate. Just look at the difference between the endzone and the Eastside chairback seats and the difference of both to the burnt orange on this website. Burnt Orange is a state of mind.
The one thing for certain is that it will not have huge brown patches in it by the first game as the grass did the past couple of years. If they paid the head grass keeper a dollar a day, he got paid way the hell too much.
It 1000 times better than old school turf. The new stuff actually has some give to it due to the filler in the surface. Most leg joint injuries due to astroturf were do to the fact that once a player planted to cut it had a tendency to not give. If the cleat doesn't give something has to (knee, hip etc..). Not to mention the new stuff won't take off a layer of skin when a player is tackled.
only two tones of green in the recent pics are shaded and non-shaded. if you guys are seeing anything else, you are due for a graphic upgrade.
no, it's "two-toned". It is blotchy and parts are dark while parts are lighter, though I do not think it looks bad. To me, it looks much more realistic than if every blade of grass was the same exact color. You only see that action on Pebble Beach.
