You may be aware of the tragic bus accident last week involving the cheerleaders' bus from the West Texas town of Iraan following their playoff football game which killed their sponsor Liz Pope and critically injured several girls. The West Texas area rallied around the community for Iraan's playoff game in Abilene tonight, and over 1000 cheerleaders from other cities and towns across the state attended to show support. In addition, as the Iraan team caravan passed through towns on their trip to Abilene, people in those towns gathered along streets and highways in the cold to cheer them and show support. Iraan's opponent from another great small Texas town Wellington presented them with a $3000 check before the game to establish a scholarship in the name of Liz Pope. This is Texas at its best. Iraan defeated Wellington 42-21.
This is in my neck of the woods, very touching story. The Braves won and will play at Jerry World now.
