Here's the last 4 Dodd Coach of the Year winners. Per Wikipedia: "given to the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision head coach whose team excels on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. The award is named for Bobby Dodd, longtime head football coach at Georgia Tech and was established in 1976 to honor the values that Dodd exemplified."

    YEAR COACH SCHOOL
    2019 Kyle Whittingham Utah
    2018 Brian Kelly Notre Dame
    2017 David Shaw Stanford
    2016 Mike MacIntyre Colorado

Looks like an award to provide cover for retaining the coach.

Can someone point out what outstanding coaching was present Saturday? At a minimum, Gundy gets an assist.

    The real question...

    Can the award hold water...

Clearly one of the criteria is to not allow the binder to screw something up even worse than it already was...in other words, Texas won in SPITE of the binder.

According to Herman’s post game comments, Texas won in spite of Sam having a bad game.

Nothing about bad play calling mentioned, just Sam not playing well.

Three outa five ain’t bad, but it’s close to one of those coaches’ winning percentage.

Well.. for the record, at least in my view, Sam didn't play well...until about the 7 minute mark.....and this seems to be a disconcerting trend of late.

    Rain,

You are correct, but that is not something a HC says in his post game comments, his Monday press conference or ANYTIME publicly. Once again, Tom Herman exhibiting a lack of common sense.
