How does BitTorrent work?

I am a computer illiterate. I need help. This is the best place.

So I went to see Ryan Adams last week in Dallas. The show was recorded (with Ryan's permission) and is available on a Ryan Adams fansite. So I installed BitTorrent software and downloaded the show. It took forever, but it is on my computer.

Now, the big question: how do I listen to it? Or can I? Do I need to install some other software? I've never used BitTorrent and don't understand this peer to peer stuff. I just want to listen to the recording but have no idea how to go about it.

    Thanks.

What is the file type? Once you have the file downloaded its just like any other media file.

It might be archived. If the files have an extension like ".rar" or ".bz2", or ".tar" or something like that, then you need to download winrar and extract them.

After reading this, I decided I want to see Ryan Adams, too. So I found the link and I found this:
