Michael West added to athletic training staff

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Baseball squad added a new athletic trainer for the 2008 season as Michael West was named to the Longhorns' staff in early January.

"We are pleased to have Michael as part of our staff," UT head baseball coach Augie Garrido said. "He has a lot of experience working with baseball players and our student-athletes will be in good hands as far as our athletic training goes."

A native of San Diego, West brings eight years of baseball experience to the Longhorns. Prior arriving in Austin, he spent the last five years working as a Strength and Conditioning Coordinator in the Florida Marlins minor league system. West served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Nebraska, working with the Cornhuskers' football and baseball teams from 2001-03.

West graduated with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from San Diego State University in December of 2000. He added a master's degree in athletic administration from Nebraska in 2003. He has been a Certified Athletics Trainer since 2001 and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist since 2003.
