You know how crazy that place will be full of only students? The sad part is they have to give away free food to fill it, but this is genius. Beard knows our student body doesn't care about basketball and is doing everything he can to get them involved. Love it!
Great idea by Coach Beard. I wish I was still a student and could go. Question: will COVID restrictions limit turn-out in any way?
I've always thought they should do this for at least one OOC game each year, wish they had done it when I was in school
Glad to hear Texas Volleyball agreed to let MBB use their court/arena. VB is hosting the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA Tourney later this week, so they better leave it in the same condition they found it. It always makes me nervous when the basketball teams use Gregory.
??? Why would that possibly make you nervous? The basketball teams do not wear metal cleats. What could they do to damage the floor for VB?
I only watch ~3 games each year. One or two top matchups and a tournament game or two. Never on a weeknight. But I made a point to watch this one, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it, simply for the atmosphere. They need to do this for one game every season. The women's team too. Hell, make it a double-header: Go to the women's game, you're already in the gym and get the best seats before folks show up for the men's game only. They can't have lost that much in ticket sales by moving the game from the Erwin Center, and in return, they get a ton of publicity, goodwill, and excitement that'll pay off for the rest of the season. No-brainer. Keep doing it. I'm probably gonna watch more than three games this season. Anyone know why the entire east end (behind the left hoop on TV) is closed, with a black curtain? Normally, there are a ton of seats back there.
I've wanted them to do this for a long time. Seems like a really great atmosphere, even if the floor is a mess
Y'all make it sound like the floor is that of the Old Boston Garden -- parque wood with cracks and uneven surfaces, and nails/bolts sticking up here and there. Character.
It’s kinda hard to watch on TV with all the various lines and the wide black border for the volleyball court. I haven’t seen a basketball game in person played there since my high school was state runner up in February 1976. It was raining and the roof was leaking on the court.
I'm sure the floor condition is fine. It's more that it's hard to imagine the way it's lined out isn't a distraction. Didn't look like it was much an issue for the players although there were a couple of turnovers on the out-of-bounds line.
That was a fun game to watch on TV. I still have my ID from the 2000s. Think it would have worked to get in?
Don't know - don't care. It was the first thing I thought of when the game was announced. Of course I was only half serious. It belongs to Rec Sports. Athletics has to reserve and rent it from Rec Sports for all VB practices and matches.
