So how about that basketball game! What a great season Coach Smart and the guys have put together.

Back to baseball it's the third game of a four game series, that's tied 1-1. First two games dominated by the outstanding pitching of both teams. Both games decided by mistakes on defense, in one run contests. Expect more of the same today.

The game starts sometime not known maybe 3:30 pm, but it's up in the air because of the other sports going on today. When it does it will be broadcast on LHN and the audio on texassports.com

    Going for the line-ups.

    The Stanford line-up.

    Tommy Edman---SS
    Nico Hoerner-----2B
    Mikey Diekroeger-3B
    Alex Dunlap--------C
    Quinn Broder-------LF
    Kris Bubic-----------DH again not really
    Jonny Locher--------RF
    Jack Klein------------Cf
    Matt Decker----------1B

    The Texas line-up:

Lefty Ty Culbreth, who mixes his pitchers well and has experience as a reliever and a starter gets the ball today for Texas.

It's a beautiful day for baseball and I imagine some happy Horn basketball fans will be streaming over to the Disch, after a big win over #3 OU.

Tommy Edman will leadoff once more as he has in every game of the series batting from the right side as a switch hitter.
He flies one to left and it carries on the wind and Jones fights it, but makes the catch, one away.
Jones in left because Rand broke his hand, on the HBP last night.

Nico Hoerner bats righty, playing second and one down.
He is punched out by hard slider, the K looking is two away.

Mikey Diekroeger plays third base and bats lefty with two outs.
Another sharp slider is this time swung through and the side is down in order.

Culbreth starts with good inning and Texas comes to bat.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Horns sports day started on good notes with the BB team beating ou and the Women's softball team beating Illinois.

Horns baseball needs to make it a trifecta!

Icing on the cake would be Women's BB beating the frogs on Senior Night.

Stanford will start their first southpaw of the series in Chris Castellanos.

The Texas centerfielder will lead off again batting righty, in Zane Gurwitz.
A liner to center and his opposite for Stanford has it for the first out.

Bret Boswell, the shortstop will bat lefty, with one down.
A fly ball toward the gap in left center is run down by the centerfielder and it's two outs.

Joe Baker plays second base and bats right handed with two gone.
A flair out to center and the shortstop with his back to the infield runs it down and that retires the side in order.

Both teams down quickly and after one it's 0-0.

  6. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Culbreth back to the hill for the Horns in the Cardinal second frame.

The Stanford catcher is Alex Dunlap, batting righty.
A ground ball on the left side gets by Clemens at third, but Boswell has it and the long throw gets Dunlap, for one away.

Quinn Brodey will bat lefty, as their left fielder, with one gone.
He rips a liner right to Baker at second, he stabs it, two outs.

So now the real DH for Stanford is Austin Barr, batting righty with two away.
A fast ball is a called strike three, the K looking will retire the side again in order.

Culbreth stays sharp, Texas tries to find some offense, to the bottom of two and it's nothing across for either squad.

  7. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The big lefty as most Cardinal pitchers are of the big variety, comes back now for the Horn second frame.

Leading off for the Horns is Tres Barrera, at first base in this one, batting righty.
A ground ball up the middle and through is the first hit and base runner of the contest.

Michael Cantu is the Horn catcher, batting right handed, with one on.
He squares and lays down the sac bunt that goes 1-3, one down.
    Barrera to second.

Kaleb Denny is the DH today, batting right handed, with one on and one down.
He K's swinging on a big breaking curve, it's two away.

Travis Jones in left field today for the injured Rand, bats righty, with one on and two gone.
He needs a clutch job to plate Barrera and give Texas an advantage.
He can't hold up on a curve ball low and the K will retire the side, as the K's keep mounting in this series for Texas.

Runner stranded at second and after two played, no runs to report.

Culbreth out for his third inning of work, for the Horns.

Leading off for the Cardinal is their right fielder Jonny Locher.
A high pop to shallow right carries out to McKenzie in right, for one gone.

Jack Klein bats righty and plays center, in not his usual nine hole, but the eight slot, with one down.
Another fast ball is called a strike three, as he is frozen looking for the breaking ball, the K is two gone.

Matt Decker will bat right handed, he plays first today, with two outs.
A grounder to short and the 6-3 retires the side in order for the third time.

That means Culbreth has gone through the order in order, it also means still 0-0, to the bottom of the third.

Castellanos back out for the home half of the third.

Texas leads with Kody Clemens batting lefty, playing third base.
He flies one to left, the wind blowing out carries it some, but again brought in by a Cardinal outfielder, at the track, one down.

Jake McKenzie plays right for the injured Mathis, he bats righty, with one down.
He lines one down the left field line that drops in and he legs it out to second, for a stand up double.

Back to the top of the order in Gurwitz, with a man at second, one down, batting righty.
A fly ball that looked to be going foul is brought back by the wind and falls fair down the line, another double, but McKenzie never picked it up and stops at third, a mistake there.

Boswell bats lefty, with two on in scoring position and one down.
Infield back and a ground ball scores a run.
The old friend for Texas, the safety squeeze is employed successfully and it works, the play goes 1-3, for the out.
The run scores and the runner goes to third, two down.

    Texas leads 1-0.

Baker bats righty with still a runer at second and two gone.
Playing add on would be huge as runs are at a premium in the series.
He looks at another curve called strike three and that retires the side.

Texas scratches out a run and leads 1-0, after three.

Culbreth will look to continue his good ways, now with a lead in the fourth.

Top of the order in Tommy Edman, still hitless in the series, leads off batting right handed.
A big change and it's swung on and missed, to keep him that way, one down.

Hoerner bats righty, with one down.
He also K's on a pitch in the dirt and Cantu can't pick it up and he reaches safely on the strike out, on the so called wild pitch, that's a tough call, changed to an E-2, the right call.
Still it's Stanford's first base runner.

Diekroeger bats lefty, with one on and one down.
He pops to the right side and Baker has it for two away.

Dunlap bats righty with two gone and one on.
Culbreth upset that his perfect game is gone, picks the runner off first, the play goes 1-3-6 to retire the side.

Stanford gets a runner on the error, but Culbreth just gets four outs in reality to take care of it and has still faced the minimum of hitters.

Texas leads 1-0, to the bottom of four.

Castellanos back out to the bump, for the fourth.

Barrera leads off the Horns and bats righty.
He shoots a liner to left for his second single of the the game and a lead runner.

Cantu up batting righty to again put down the bunt, as he did his first at bat.
He can't get it down, so on a hit and run a grounder goes to short, the play goes 6-3, for one out. It looked like he had a play at second and a possible dp, break for Texas.

One down for the righty hitter, Denny, with a man at second.
Barrera goes and the throw is there and the third baseman drops it, should have been out, another break for the Horns.
Have to take advantage of this and score the run, with some contact.
He walks to put runners on the corner, as he just held up on the swing at the low curve.

Jones bats righty, with two on and one down.
Another safety squeeze and the catcher has it and then tries to tag Barrera, but misses and the run scores. Bad decision by him, the play was to first. It goes as a hit.

    Texas leads 2-0.

Kody Clemens bats lefty with two on and one down.
His deep fly ball to right is over the right fielder's glove and off the wall, another double and another run scores.

    Texas leads 3-0.

McKenzie bats righty with two on and still one out.
A flair to center and it drops and the single scores another run

    Texas leads 4-0.

Coach out, but leaves him in.

Gurwitz bats righty, with runners on the corners and one down.
He sends a shallow fly ball to center and it doen't allow Denny to tag and score, two gone.

Boswell bats lefty with two on and two down.
He sends one that has a chance to right and it's gone. A three run bomb, as the wind took it way out.

    Texas leads 7-0.

Baker bats righty with two gone.
He grounds out to second and that finally ends the frame.

Stanford makes some bad fielding decisions and Texas makes them pay with some timely hitting.

It all adds up to a big 7-0 lead, after the six run frame, to the fifth.

Culbreth with now an abundance of ras riches in runs comes back out for the Cardinal fifth.

Dunlap leads off for Stanford, he was left in the box, when the runner was picked off last inning.
He K's swinging on the low slider, it's one down.

Brodey bats lefty, with one down.
He also K's swinging, on the low and outside breaker, two down.

A pinch hitter a lefty hitter named Oar.
He grounds to second the 4-3 retires once more in order.

Culbreth despite the long inning by Texas keeps rolling, halfway through the game, it's 7-0 Horns.

  15. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Castellanos despite the bad inning will stay on.

Barrera will lead off batting righty, with two hits today, batting righty.
He cues a ball back to the pitcher and his momentum takes him toward Tres and he tags him for the 1U out.

Cantu bats righty with one away.
He K's swinging on the curve ball and it's two gone.

Denny bats righty, as two are retired.
He also K's swinging on a caught foul tip, to retire the side.

Five gone at the Disch on a big day for Texas Longhorn sports the baseball Horns look to add to it, leading 7-0.

  16. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Culbreth looks to stay on total track, in the Cardinal sixth.

Righty hitting, a pinch hitter in Brandon Wullf, leads off.
A grounder to short goes 6-3 and one down.

Klein bats righty, with one away.
He lines one to right and McKenzie comes in on the run and dives and makes the sliding catch, make a note of that play, if things continue like they are. A fielding gem is two gone.

Decker bats righty, with two outs.
He takes the breaker, it's over and the K looking retires the side yet again in order.

Bottom of the sixth and Texas in control 7-0.

  17. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Castellanos tries to stretch out his stay and save some arms, back for the sixth.

    Jones leads off batting righty.
He grounds one through the left side, actually knocked down by the shortstop, but no play, a single.

Clemens bats lefty, with one on.
A very high pop to short and the shortstop has it, one gone.

McKenzie bats righty, with one on and one down.
He has had a nice game at the plate and in the field.
A fly ball goes to center and it's two gone.

Top of the order is Gurwitz, whos bats righty with one on and one down.
He K's on the slow curve ball swinging, that retires the side.

It's six played now and Texas is cruising 7-0.

  18. NBHorn7

Culbreth comes out for the seventh and you wonder how long he can go, even under the circumstances.

It's the top of the order and that means Edman, batting righty.
It the immovable object against the force, in this matchup.
Edman has not a single hit in the series.
A ground ball to short and the 6-3 is one down, advantage to the force.

Hoerner bats righty and lines one down the left field line, just foul.
Then he grounds one up the middle and Boswell has it spins and throws late to first, that's the first hit of the game for Stanford.

One on and one down, for lefty hitting Diekroeger.
Not shaken Culbreth cuts him down swinging, on the big breaker.
    That's two outs.

Dunlap bats righty with one on and two outs.
He grounds one behind the bag at third, backhanded by Jones, the
long throw is not in time, another infield hit.

Brodey bats lefty, with two on and two down.
After a 2-0 count Skip comes out, as Culbreth begins to tire no doubt, but he stays in.
Another low breaker is swung on and missed, again Cantu can't find the ball, but this time he does and the throw just nips him at first, to retire the side 2-3 on the put out.

Eleven K's for Culbreth and with the nono gone, he should be through for the day. What a performance by him.

They stretch in the Austin, Texas leads 7-0.

A new pitcher for Stanford is right hander Bobby Zarubin.

Boswell of the three run shot today, leads off batting lefty.
He lines a high fast ball to left for a single, that drops just in front of the left fielder.

Baker bats righty, with one on.
He hasn't joined the hit parade today yet.
He is plunked by an inside pitch, but just like last night for the Stanford hitter, he stays at the plate. It's ruled he moved into the pitch.
He pops to third and that's one down.

Barrera bats righty with one on and one down.
A hot shot to third and the around the horn goes 5-4-3, the dp ends the inning.

Seven are played and Texas has 7 to the Cardinal's 0.

It's a bit surprising to me as Culbreth comes back to pitch the eighth. Saving arms for tomorrow no doubt.

Nicholas Oar, who became the DH earliers is back up batting righty.
He K's looking at the fast ball at the knees, for one down.

Wullf who is now playing left for the Cardinal up again batting righty.
With one down he makes it two outs with a grounder to third.

A pinch hitter is righty hitter Branton, with two gone.
He grounds to second and the 4-3 is recorded to again retire the side in order.

Bottom of eight and Texas in control 7-0.

Zarubin back out for the Cardinal.

Cantu leads off the Horn eighth, batting righty.
A grounder to short and the 6-3 means one down.

Coach out and a pitching change.

  23. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The new Stanford chunker is Joey Starling, a right hander.

He faces Denny as his first batter, batting righty, with one down.
A liner off the third baseman on a hop gets by him and it's a single.

Jones bats righty, with one on and one down.
He is hit by an inside pitch and he is made to stay at the plate, as the others. This time it's not the right call, as that pitch bored in on him.
A pinch runner for Denny now is Tate Shaw.
Jones back in after a discussion between Augie and the home plate ump.
Jones makes it a moot point by lining a single to right center.

Pitching coach back out and another change is made.

There is adequate hitting this afternoon.

The latest Stanford hurler is lefty John Henry Styles.

He faces lefty hitter Kody Clemens, with two on and two down.
He is plunked in the back and this time it will be a HBP to load the sacks.

The nine hole hitter in righty McKenzie is up with the bases loaded and still one out.
He lines a single to right and two more come in, as the route is on.

    Texas leads 9-0.

The top of the order is Gurwitz, batting righty, with two on and still one out.
A ground ball to short and it goes 6-4-3 this time for another twin killing, to end the frame.

Texas tacks on two more and to the ninth it's winning time, as the Horns lead 9-0.

Culbreth is finally done and it will be lefty Kacy Clemens getting his first action as a pitcher this season. He of course pitched last season. He tries to preserve the shutout.

Yet another pinch hittter for Stanford will leadoff, it's righty hitter Jesse Kuet.
A ground ball to short and the 6-3 is the first out.

Edman is back up, at the top of the order, batting lefty now, as a switch hitter.
He flies to left and that is two gone.

Hoerner stands between Clemens and the shutout.
He plunks him on the shoulder and he takes first, as the rash of hit batters keeps coming.

Another pinch hitter is Matt Winaker, batting lefty, one on and two down.
He walks on four pitches to put two on.

Yet another pinch hitter is Bryce Carter, hitting lefty, two on and two outs.
A ground ball to second and that will end the game 4-3 on the put out. The shutout is completed.

Texas wins 9-0, that will insure a split in the series at least, but the Horns will want the 3-1 winner tomorrow.

Great day of Longhorn sports is completed.

    Back soon.

It looked like another tight low scoring game and it was for one team, that being Stanford.

The Cardinal had some bad decisions and execution on defense, none were called actual errors, but they helped open the flood gates for a Texas run tsunami.

The bats came alive for the first time and that was more than enough for Ty Culbreth, who flirted with a no hitter and never did allow a hit out of the infield.

Backups stepped in for some injured starters and did the job. We talked before the start of the season how valuable Jake McKenzie could be as he pitches and plays several positions, has a decent bat too.

Culbreth not only gets the win, he goes eight innings and now the bullpen is rested and ready to go tomorrow.

Texas gets wins in games involving round balls of all sizes today. You really couldn't ask for a better Saturday of Longhorn sports.

Stanford will come out and play hard tomorrow, they always do. I think they saved a few arms, after the game got out of hand.

You need the bats to stay alive, not be a one game thing, the pitching is mostly always going to be there.

Texas goes to 4-2 on the year and Stanford drops to 4-3. Let's do it again tomorrow and take this series.:hookem2::bevo:

Would have been a better day if softball wouldn't have let Tulsa punk us twice in a row, but if the WBB can pull off a win tonight, it will be a great day. Hopefully Junior Day was a success for Charlie as well. LHN is a wonderful thing !!!! Able to see ALL of it from my sofa......
