Apparently this fermented herring is about the smelliest thing on earth
Bad enough that people will sometimes vomit as soon as the can is opened, it is so nasty
So naturally people have made videos of their attempts to eat Surstromming
It is one of the funniest things I have ever seen, not for everyone though
Skip this video ahead to the 2-minute mark where things get, um, interesting
    You have been warned
    * Edit: I guess you have to watch it on YouTube, can't embed it here

    Yuk!

And I don't even like Kim Chee, and can only take a little bit of Sauerkraut...

Don't go to a restaurant in Korea. The kimchee smell is omnipresent.

Oh I’ve had a lot worse than Kim Chee while in Korea. The dried minnows. Don’t eat the dried minnows!

Gotta wash it down with some “HITE” beer.

When in the Land of the Morning Calm, eat the wok grilled fish that you pick out live from the big Rubbermaid barrels and they kill, fillet, and grill in front of you.

And take it slow and easy on the Soju.

Went to a restaurant in Seoul. They had fresh cabbage the size of a basketball on the front porch.

I ate kimchi/sushi that had fermented fish. You can smell the ammonia. Pretty nice actually.

I spent a lot more time way down South than in Seoul. In the far Southern port cities (Pusan/Busan, Masan, and Jinhae), they had outdoor tent lined malls with Soju tents. You buy a Soju, and you get a small plate (sort of like a Spanish tapas size) grilled up in a wok for free. If you don’t want Soju, you can pay for one and get a “HITE” beer instead. Good offerings included chicken livers and rice (dirty rice Korean style), ribs, and above all those fish you pick out yourself from the Rubbermaid tubs.

We quickly learned to steer clear of any sort of minnows, anything they advertised as very hot and spicy, squid, eel, and weird sea creatures.
