I will never understand how Ted could have just walked away and left her to die. I will also never understand how the media handled it back then. Steyn surely got roasted over that op ed
If he hadn't left her to die, it would have become known that he was screwing around with her (while he was a married man), that he was driving while slobbering drunk, or both. It would have been politically damaging back then. In other words, he left her to die to save his own ***. If you buy what the movie suggested, he did plan to come clean later, but he ended up taking the easy way out. As for why the media let it slide, the ends justify the means. He did a terrible thing, but he served their agenda. That was good enough for them.
