Anyone read the 'Farmer's Flight' article in Texas Monthly about the end of the UT vs A&M rivaly? Did you notice the 2 page ad immediately before the article that A&M took out? It had an Aggy football player and said, "The time is right for change. The time is right for A&M" I found this all pretty interesting. This message of change and ascendancy -- self-justification and self-deception -- well-aimed at its target demographic. But why do they feel the need to sell this concept now? Its a done deal, there is no going back. Are their alumni somewhat split on leaving traditional rivals/a Texas-based conference? I thought it was pretty universally popular with them. Its almost like the powers that be at A&M are already preparing for an inevitable moment of realization amongst their fans: "OMG, we've had a collective 100 year brain fart!"
The time is right for aggy to get the dog **** beat out of them by much stronger teams in the SEC. aggy: "At least we don't have to lose to Texas anymore, or bottom feeders like Missouri, oh wait."
I saw the ad, but why advertise in Texas Monthly? Shouldn't they be advertising in Deep South Monthly, or the SEC News, or something? They are departing Texas, athletically at least, which is the only notice most Texans have of colleges in Texas (unfortunate but true).
The time is right to desert. The time is right for A&M. At least they're not pulling the A&M denial "Texas Aggies" stuff this time.
If there was truth in advertising the text would have read something along the lines of: Hey, we're A&M, look at us. College Station isn't moving out of the Texas. We're still here. Ww won't be playing many games around here, but we're going to lose to a bunch of good SEC teams - we must be good. We want you to compare us to The University of Texas. We are almost as good as them and they're great so we must be almost great, right? So please, please, please look at us. P.S. if you can't see us playing any of our former rivals catch us playing our new rivals, Arkansas ans South Carolina - coming soon on the new Aggy Channel.
