A 2-2 split against the #6 team in their house would have to be viewed as a winner. 3-1 would be terrific. Dare we ask for a 4-0 sweep?

    GAME NOTES
    THE MATCHUP—
The Longhorns travel to No. 6 Stanford for a four-game series with the Cardinal. Texas and Stanford have a long-standing annual series and have played every season since 1998. Stanford is 9-2 this season after a series win at Cal-State Fullerton.

A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Texas sits at 11-3 after a midweek win over UTRGV and a sweep of No. 2 LSU at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns used dominant pitching to win the first two games over LSU and finished off the sweep with an exciting ninth-inning rally. Starting with the LSU series, Texas is in the midst of playing 15-of-17 games against nationally ranked teams. Last season, Texas won the 2018 Big 12 Conference Championship and returned to the College World Series for the first time since 2014. The Longhorns posted a 42-23 record and 17-7 mark in league play.

WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS—Following a weekend sweep of No. 2 LSU, Texas outfielders Austin Todd and Eric Kennedy were recognized by the Big 12 Conference for their performances. Todd was named the league's player of the week and Kennedy was named newcomer of the week. Todd played in four games during the week and batted .357 with a homer and seven RBI. The Longhorns' leading run-producer played the role of walk-off hero on Sunday to complete the sweep of LSU. In addition to his walk-off hit, he hit a two-run homer in the third inning of Sunday's finale. Kennedy played a huge role in helping to sweep LSU, producing hits in every game of the series. The freshman from Tampa, Fla., drove in a team-high three runs in the Longhorns' 8-4 win on Saturday. On Sunday, Kennedy drove in the game-tying run in the ninth inning to keep the Texas hopes alive.

DUUUKE—Junior outfielder Duke Ellis is the national leader with 23 walks this season and the Longhorn lead-off man leads the team with a .516 on base percentage. With Ellis' ability to get on base, he is second on the team with 15 runs scored.

THE FRESHMEN PRESIDENTS—Several freshmen are already making an impact for Texas, but a trio of hitters, that all sport Presidential names have especially stood out. Eric Kennedy has been one of the Longhorns' top hitters, batting .309 with 13 RBI and 16 runs this season. Bryce Reagan has started 12 games at shortstop and has a double, a homer and eight runs scored. Ford has four hits, including a double, four runs scored and two RBI.

YOUNG GUNS—Head Coach David Pierce's 2019 pitching staff is likely the youngest he has ever head, featuring seven freshmen (one redshirt) and five sophomores (one redshirt). All 12 of the underclassmen pitchers have already appeared in a game this season. A handful of youngsters have yet to allow an earned run this season – Mason Bryant, Kamron Fields, Kolby Kubichek and Owen Meaney. Five of the seven pitchers to have started a game for Texas this season are underclassmen.

NEXT UP—Texas returns to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for the next six games. The Longhorns host Texas Southern on Tuesday and welcome Texas Tech for the first series of Big 12 play. Texas then hosts Arkansas for a pair of midweek games.

RANKED—Texas remains in the national rankings heading into the third week of the season. The Longhorns' rankings are: D1Baseball (#12), Baseball America (#9), NCBWA (#12), USA Today Coaches Poll (#11) and Collegiate Baseball (#7).

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK—Texas freshman pitcher Coy Cobb threw seven shutout innings against Purdue, earning him the Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week award. In his second career start, and his first on the mound at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, Cobb was lights out. He allowed just four hits to the Boilermakers and did not issue any walks. At one point, the freshman retired 12-straight batters until a two-out double in the fifth inning. Cobb got a strikeout to end the fifth with no damage done. He finished with two strikeouts in the game.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK—Following an opening-day gem, Texas sophomore right-hander Bryce Elder was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week. Elder pitched eight innings and allowed just one run on four hits with no walks. He struck out nine batters in eight innings of work. After allowing a one-out infield single in the fifth, Elder retired the next 11-consecutive batters.

PRESEASON ALL BIG 12—The Longhorns' top returning hitters, OF Duke Ellis and DH Zach Zubia, were named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team. Following the 2018 season – each of their first on the Forty Acres – both Ellis and Zubia were selected as All-Big 12 First Team members.

PRESEASON POLL—In the Big 12 preseason coaches' poll, Texas was selected to finish fourth behind preseason favorite Texas Tech (61), Baylor (58) and TCU (48). Last season, five of the nine Big 12 teams made the NCAA postseason.

DRAFTED—Texas saw five players selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft: INF Kody Clemens (Tigers, 3rd round, No. 79), RHP Nolan Kingham (Braves, 12th round, No. 354), RHP Chase Shugart (Red Sox, 12th round, No. 370), LHP Josh Sawyer (Cubs, 16th round, No. 488) and INF Andy McGuire (Blue Jays, 28th round, No. 836).

PIERCE TO THE POSTSEASON—Head Coach David Pierce has reached the NCAA postseason in each of his seven seasons as a head coach at Texas, Tulane, and Sam Houston State. Last season marked the skipper's first trip to the College World Series as a head coach. Pierce advanced to the College World Series four times as an assistant coach at Rice, including winning the 2003 National Championship.

PRO PARKS—Texas plays a pair of regular season games in professional ballparks this season. The Longhorns take on Incarnate Word at Nelson Wolff Stadium, home of the Triple-A San Antonio Missions, on March 26. Texas then plays at Whataburger Field, home of the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on April 30. Also for the 19th time, the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship will be played in Oklahoma City. The Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers, plays host to the event.

WATCH 'EM—All but one Texas home game will be broadcast on Longhorn Network this season. The team of Lowell Galindo, Keith Moreland, and Greg Swindell will return to the booth to call the action.

HEAR 'EM—In partnership with IMG-College, Texas games will be broadcast on the Austin Radio Network, primarily on 104.9 The Horn and AM 1260. Craig Way handles primary play-by-play duties alongside Roger Wallace and Quan Cosby.

Sweet bunt by Austin Todd, top of the 9th. Stanford responds with intentional walk to load the bases.

No, using internet for live audio and gametracker

Only thing more worthless than the coverage of LHN is the PAC TV. which is received by about a dozen homes West of Denver.

Okay, you are not going to believe this. I open the live stream just as the Texas batter waits for the wind-up. He is very relaxed, cocky even. The pitcher is not. The pitch......hit for base hit on the right hand side. 3-0 Horns.

I've been drinking, so I'm definitely relaxed, but the 3-0 lead has me feeling cocky now. Hope I didn't just jinx things...
