This is not an easy game for the Horns. N. Iowa defeated UNC and Iowa St. (in Des Moines), Wichita State two of three; and HAS WON 12 of THEIR LAST 13 GAMES. They are a seriously hot team. They start three senior guards, and we all know guard play wins most games in the tourney. Our back court needs to play great defense; hit some shots, and not turn the ball over. Our big front needs to rebound, stay on the court, i.e., not put itself on the bench by getting into foul trouble. If Cam and Clear can score 15 between them, and Ibeh just plays smart D, (we know he won't score much) then the Horns have a great shot to escape with a W. Hook em!
As I posted on another thread, Northern Iowa is one of the worst rebounding teams in college basketball. They are also near the bottom in free throws attempted, because they draw so few fouls. They play a slow deliberate offense, that is mainly creating picks for jump shots. This is why they don't draw many fouls. If ever Texas should dominate the boards it's this game. The Horns should also be able to play man on man D and not get the bigs in foul trouble. You need to get out on their shooters, unless their center is also a jump shooter, Ibeh should be able to stay underneath and get rebounds. Wes Washpun is the man that needs special attention on defense and I would expect Holland will see significant minutes, in this role.
Northern Iowa has had hot and cold streaks, they were 10-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play on Jan. 23. Then they turned things around in conference play, finished fourth in the Missouri Valley and then won the conference tournament. I think this game is going to be a good test of where the team's head is at. They are going to make us play smart and with energy if we want to win. I think we win Shakastyle. Smart use of the press and with high energy play.
One shining moment - mtsu. One dull thud - msu. No one is safe this March. Everyone has flaws. Should be more upsets to come. Hope we're not one of them.
And #4 Cal taken out by a very good #13 seed Hawaii. BTW the Wahine also beat Northern Iowa by 16 points this season.

Still the same offensive woes. Good looks but poor shooting. UNI is going to keep going inside when our bigs are confused, and then open up the outside shooting to expose our perimeter.
This team really needs ridley in a game like this throwing the ball into ebay and claire and expecting them to score is a wasted possesion
Shaka getting his **** pushed in on the coaching end of this so far. Everything UNI has thrown at us made someone confused on the defensive end.
Why do the freshman player's come in the game and just start jacking up bad shots.Loss the lead with that.
That elbow was not that bad. He didn't follow through with it, just got it up to high. **** way to give up a 7 point play. Add that to these running hooks this dude couldn't make in practice and it's just head banging bat **** at this point.
