Wow, just watched that movie Idiocracy not too long ago and this reminded me of that.

 

How many of them know that the declaration of independence cites as one reason for revolt that the Brits sicced the "merciless indian savages" on the colonies?

Those guys were not too PC, were they?

As for those ignorant kids, when they start paying taxes in a few years and start trying to balance their checkbooks, they will know to blame all their problems on the government.

Wow. Yes, Idiocracy is becoming more and more a documentary. This country is unbelievably stupid. We're too caught up in American Idol, the Kardashians and The Bachelorette to care about our history. Many of these people were young kids who surely required to take History in high school within the last 5-7 years. That whole video makes me sick, as do the Jaywalking episodes. Yes, I am aware of editing, but there are far too many people whose responses indicated idiocy.

 

I keep going back to what I said when I taught government - a representative democracy cannot exist unless you have an informed electorate. I think that is what BO is counting on. I'm glad I am relatively old and won't be around to see what this country has become in 30 years.

 

When living in NYC I helped out on the crew of a telepoll like this and much like Jay Leno's Jaywalking segment. We went through hundreds of people and interviews to get the ten used for quotes and clips. I have a feeling this was much the same. There will be nitwits no matter what the question is but this, from my experience and common sense, is not the norm.

I wonder if you asked them if they are D or R what the result would be. I would be closer to 50/50 than any of us want to think. It is a shame that there are people who blunder things so bad but in some cases the cameras and microphone help freeze them some as well.

If any of you have been interviewed, candidly and on the spot with no prep, you know what I am talking about. Again, it's sad that people in this clip don't know off hand what the 4th is all about. I guess we need to include that too on their test to get out of H.S.

 

Stupid votes count the same as any other. Romney would lose badly in this election f you took away the votes of folks voting against Obama because they believe he's a Muslim born in Kenya and folks dependent on Medicare for the health care railing aginst government involvement in health care, Of course, the Democrats aren't moving towards making it more difficult to vote and certainly wouldn't fare very well as a party were its constitutens required to logically explain the connection between their votes and the candidates they support.

 

Good point, Deez. That could possibly be true and I now wish they would have asked. It was not a politically motivated thing and more for entertainment and comedy.

The vast majority of people knew the year of the Dec. of Independence. They knew D.C. was not the original capital. They knew who famously rode the horse, what he yelled and where he was from. The ones that did not were hilarious. They made it worth the wait.

 

I have to agree with Loop on this. if you really want to find stupid people just keep asking questions.

When Texas lost to Ohio State in Austin in 2006 (year after MNC) if you talked to 10,000 horn fans, there would be 500 that would say they need to fire MB. If you then made a video appearing to represent Texas fans, and just played the 500 folks, everyone in the world would say how moronic Texas fans are.

I firmly believe the country is not nearly as dumb as some folks like to believe. Not sure either which party thinks they benefit from this.

All economic systems use resources. Which system do you think uses resources the most efficient? Which system revealed major environmental issues after the fall of the iron curtain?

Ballots should be blank, and you have to write in the name of who you're voting for.

It's not that hard to figure out who's running, and if you can't be bothered to at least know their name, you should not vote.

The views that people under 40 have about capitalism and socialism are horrifically warped. Never has a generation been so credentialed yet been so foolish. As George Will put it, they are not uneducated. They are mal-educated, which is far worse.
