Had a water heater go and had it replaced with tankless version. It did some water damage in the process. Jacked up some wood flooring...probably looking at about $1500 to repair.

Anybody got any advice on whether to file a claim or not? What is a good general threshold before it becomes smart to just pay for the repair out of pocket?

From word of mouth, I have heard about more and more homeowners getting dropped from their home owner's insurance for filing relatively small claims. I really don't know how wide spread this is, but something to consider.

Plus there is the hassle of going through adjuster, approved contractor, etc, etc.

I had some drunk idiot take out my stone mailbox and of course, no insurance and $350 later, I won't file on insurance and it's pretty worthless trying to get money out of the drunk. So I eat $350.00.
