I use the term "personality" because some shows are more about the host & how cool / wacky / different they are as opposed to a good combination of product, information & entertainment value. As I got older, I've come to appreciate Julia Childs & really liked her show with Jacques Pepin... it seemed like they had been doing this for decades when in reality it was only 22 episodes. I also like Ming Tsai & Martin Yan (Yan Can Cook)... I dunno; something about the PBS guys seem to be better than the Food Network shows. Discuss.
My favorites are Battali (I don't get to see him much) and Alton Brown My opinion... Emeril - For those who like to watch other people cook. Flay - I don't learn much cooking from him, but I enjoy his programs and find him much more entertaining to watch than Emeril Ray - Better on $40 a day Giada - Nice to watch and I like how she actually shows the preparation of her food Paula Dean - I'm not really into her cooking Contessa - Never watch her Ming/The guy on Napa Style - These guys are tied on my list for third place
Alton Brown is by far may favorite. The whole science behind the food approach is both entertaining and informative. I also enjoy Ming Tsai, though I haven't seen much of him lately. The Urban Peasant was a favorite, but that show is apparently only available on Food Network's Canadian station. Emeril is by far my least favorite. I find his shtick to be very annoying.
Emeril. his food is awesome and I've met the guy. really nice Alton Brown Giada Bobby Flay Mario Batali Jacques Pepin There is a show that comes on PBS with the two guys that started Carabbas. great show
I learn a lot from AB, plus he's fun to watch. I prefer Emeril on his 'other' show, where it's just him, no audience. He's a lot calmer and isn't as caught up trying to entertain. He's a good chef.
Bobby Flay's smugness really likes him unlikable on TV. Mario Batali is really good. I enjoy Anthony Bourdain's shows a lot, though he is anything but a "TV chef". Alton Brown is great as well.
No Tyler Florence fans? I love the "Ultimate" shows. Have made several of the dishes and they have been great. I also like Everyday Food on PBS. I like Sara, and I don't know why.
Bobby Flay often has slutty looking girls in his "kitchen". Which is cool. Sandra Lee's "Semi-Homemade" cooking shows has its, um, merits. I guess a serious answer is Alton Brown and Anthony Bourdain.
Alton Brown is awesome. Then it is Tyler Florence. He has some really good recipes and he explains things in a way that is easy to understand.
Alton Brown is my favorite. And I've totally gotten sick of Giada, which I'm pretty sure makes me gay. Oh well.
Battali is probably number one. i went from hating Bobby Flay to loving him. i am different on here that i really don't like Alton Brown. rachel ray makes me want to hit her. sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way.
alton brown is great giada makes me want to strangle her with that fake overemphasized accent she uses on italian words. i'd hit it though
I like them all except Barefoot Contessa Alton is probably the one that I've cooked the most....have cooked probably 6 Rachel Ray's dishes and they all sucked. I could not get myself to cook a Paula Dean recipe b/c I couldn't throw a stick of butter or a cup of mayonaise in a dish. Gaida frustrates me to no end...when she goes to chop 3 cloves of garlic, you have to sit there and watch her every cut.....annoying...but she's hot, so I tolerate it. Sandra Lee has great store boughts, enjoy watching her. Like Bobby Flay and his wife is hotter than hell and is from Texas and she's on alot of his shows
Rick Bayless. I enjoy his shows, I learn a shitload from them, and his books are fun to read. He and his brother, Skip, are also living proof that all of the talent, skill and respectability in a family can go to one child, while all of the assclownery goes to the other.
I like watching Alton's show, but I've never had much luck cooking his food. I cook a lot and the best as far as I am concerned is Ina Garten and it aint even close. I've cooked probably half the stuff she has made on her show and it always comes out perfect.
Tyler Florence says "nkay" a lot. Listen for it. Now that you know, it'll bug the hell out of you. Plus... there's Applebees. So he's out... you're out too, and I dont think I'm in either.
holy ****. i thought he was joking about Rick being Skip's brother. google says it is true. i guess they do have the same squirrelly kind of look.
Bourdain Alton Brown Giada deLaurentis, (I could watch her whisk all day) Can't stand Flay or Emeril. Puck is cool. And Mandola and Carrabba were great.
Sandra Lee is a no talent *** clown. Semi-homemade? I can make cupcakes out of a box, too.... She is attractive in a botox, bolt-on boob kinda way...
