What a hypocritical fan base. Sure, maybe Bobby Knight never got caught making illegal phone calls or anything else that broke NCAA rules, but give me a break. Shwoing clips of IU fans being interviewed during the Michigan St. game saying that Sampson has, "tarnished," the IU record and given the program a black eye. What a crock of ****. Sampson may have given the program a figurative black eye, but how many literal black eyes and choked necks has, "The General," given while he was there?
So, not getting caught violating an NCAA regulation is simply so much better than bringing the kind of shame that Knight brought onto that campus?? Semantics. Indiana gave Knight carte blanche and even when it was obvious he had overstepped his boundary time and time again, they extended that boundary all for the sake of winning. How is this hypocritical?? Do you honestly think they would have given Knight the boot if he has been caught doing this?
Coaches are allowed to physically touch their players? Even on the neck? Holy ****- alert the National Guard!
Bobby Knight might have temper problems, he might be an egomaniac, a hothead, he might not be the best interview for the press, but he was always a clean, honest, straight shooter. That puts him head and shoulders above an out and out cheater like Sampson. Do not even attempt to equate the two in any way. Indiana won their championships cleanly, and can be justifiably proud of their image-they have every right to be upset at what Sampson has done while on their campus, and they should run him out of town as soon as possible.
