My neice who is a senior sent out five college apps:
    Texas
    Yale
    Stanford
    Rice
    Duke
Ok here is the strange part, she got offers from Yale, Standford, Rice and Duke, Texas said no, how in the hell does Yale say yes and UT said no?
    Strange strange world.

My guess is that the admissions office has seen smarter on campus.

I'm curious. She had to have been top 10% of her graduating class, right? Didn't Texas have to accept her?

Texas Admissions is also choked by the 10% rule. If she went to a really good high school (like a magnet school) she could be an excellent student, and not be in top 10%, while a bunch of dumbasses who go to a ****-*** school can be top 10%.

My brother was accepted by three top 25 law schools (U of VA, Notre Dame, and Wash U), but not Texas. He is from Texas and went to Texas undergrad. Go figure.

The only solution for her is to go to ACC, wait tables at Chuy's and apply again next year. No need to settle for Stanford, Rice, Duke, or Yale.

bih, i think you are wrong. if you want to go to an ivy, and you get in, you can do financial aid or the school will cover it.

When I was graduating highschool (10 years ago) a guy from Yale came and talked to some of us, and he said that if you get in they will make sure you'll get financial help from somewhere so that you can stay in.

Virtually every elite school guarantees that they will make it possible for anyone who is accepted to attend.

They also do a good job of not accepting a bunch of poor people.
