Huge news! Looks like Texas has added A&M transfer and 2020 Olympian Heptathlete, Tyra Gittens. Official announcement not yet made.

But, looks like it's done. She is enrolled at Texas for Spring semester classes.

And more telling, Tyra Gittens is listed as part of Texas' 4x400m relay entry in the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic scheduled for this upcoming weekend

That would mean she'll be eligible for both Indoors and Outdoors this season.

Gittens marks (college bests):

200: 23.43
100 Hurdles: 13.14
800: 2:28
Long Jump: 22'10
High Jump: 6'4.75
Shot Put: 45'7
Javelin: 135'4
Pentathlon: 4746
Heptathlon: 6418

Gittens, the nation's top multi-athlete, finished a historic 2021 season as a three-time NCAA Champion winning titles in the indoor high jump, pentathlon, and outdoor heptathlon. While winning those titles, she earned six First Team All-America honors. Gittens scored points totals of 50 points, 26 indoors and 24 outdoors, in NCAA Championships action.

Her 26-point performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships was the third-most points ever scored by an individual female at an NCAA indoor meet, while her 24-point performance at the NCAA Outdoor meet was the most points ever scored by an individual female in field events.

Gittens won three titles in Southeastern Conference championship action, along with one second-place finish, and a fourth and sixth-place finish.

We definitely have what it takes to win the team titles indoors and outdoor on the women’s side. Blazevica is also #1 in the ncaa so if they take 1st and 2nd that’s major points. Rest of the sprinter’s and middle distance runners will also contribute points. Very excited to see this team in full effect.

Was not expecting her to compete for the Indoor season as there is only like 5 weeks remaining until the NCAA championships on March 11. But, hopefully she'll give it her all the next few meets and let the chips fall where they may.

At last year's indoors, Gittens won the Heptathlon (10 team points), the women's high jump (10 team points), and finished 3rd in the women's long jump (6 team points). Even if she "rests" some this month and doesn't exert herself in all those heptathlon events, hopefully she can focus on the individual high jump and long jump and score 15-20 points for the team at NCAA's.
