Site downtime

Sorry about that... for over 3 years this site has been very stable, but twice now in the last couple of weeks we have had extended downtime. My web hosting company recently sold to another group, and today’s issue was the last straw for me, so I will be moving the site to a much more competent provider very soon. We are doing some testing now.

More to come on that shortly. Thanks for your patience.

You should have seen a popup notice on your screen today, but if not, there will be a little downtime tonight around 8:00 as we start preparing to move the site to a new hosting provider. Hope to do this quickly.

Folks, my apologies for the continued issues with the site.

I recently moved the site to another hosting provider, hoping that it would be an improvement in stability. So far it has not and I am not happy about it.

I am working with them now to make sure this gets fixed and stays fixed.

So my apologies for the inconvenience. Just know that I will continue working on this to get it right.

I was going to comment on the other thread that it seems much slower to refresh now, but figured you were working on it. Thanks.

@horninchicago are you still seeing issues now?

The site was down from 9:00 last night to 8:00 this morning. After extensive troubleshooting early this morning with my hosting provider we got it restored, but had to make several adjustments to some server settings that were not optimal (but I hope they are now...)

Feedback is welcome. I want this thing to perform well.

Seems better this morning and I did keep seeing the test page last night. However, I'm in LA on a hotel wifi. Won't be back home until tomorrow night. Will have a better gauge on it at home. I'll let you know.

Another 20 minutes down again today.

I spoke to the web host. They are on notice to fix this **** for good or I am moving it—again—to a competent provider.

I have never had so much trouble with a damn web server. Ugh.

Seems better now, thanks. But now my "Font Family" is defaulting to this Times New Roman. Weird. I can change it, but can't figure out why it is doing this after all these years.

Edit: When I hit to post, it goes back to normal. I don't get the inter webs,

No, and it only started happening recently.
Dion, this happened to me when my Edge Browser (and IE11) started adding lines as we discussed. The correct font and no extra lines with Firefox and Chrome.
You must have really made MS mad. Don't forget they read all of your emails. :argue:

@ViperHorn Have I mentioned lately how much I love Microsoft’s products?

In the late 90s to early 2000s Internet Explorer was the bane of web developers everywhere. While all other browsers respected established web coding standards, there were a few things that Microsoft refused to support in IE and instead implemented their own “standard” code. The result was that, for certain things, you had to write IE-specific code alongside standard web code, or the site would break in IE. And since they had a huge user base, you had to do it.

While MS has done really good work in other areas I have never forgiven them for that. Bitter!

If NASA handled their business like MS we never would have made it into orbit much less to the moon. Any company that charges what they do for their software and releases it 50% complete should be sued early and often.
