Israel fights the good fight; 2/3 of "Palestinians" support the Oct 7 murders, kidnappings, and rapes; Useful idiots in the US continue backing Hamas

Iran is very pissed off that Saudi A has been getting close with Israel. Iran and Saudi have been at a proxy war for some time now.

You are right. Iran just wants peace with the United States and Israel. I’m sure Joe will send them a pallet of cash and all will be fine.

I am not saying that either. I am saying we shouldn't assume either way. They aren't angels and they aren't devils. They are people that are very different than us, which means any kind of relationship will be fraught with risks.

I do think every country wants peace themselves. No one wants to be attacked. So there is incentive on both sides to avoid war.

They openly want to eliminate Israel and America. I say take them out before they get nuclear warheads thanks to Obama and Biden.

They may want to eliminate Israel and America, but can they do either? No. Furthermore, do you know what you're really asking to do, and will you have the political support to do it?

So what's involved? First, we'd have a massive bombing campaign. We'd have immediate air supremacy, so this part would be easy. Everybody would be fine with this.

Second, we'd have to forcibly oust the regime and occupy the country. That would take several hundred thousand ground troops going all the way to Tehran. This would get messy at times. Plenty of innocent people killed, and of course, probably a few thousand troops would also be killed. I think the regime itself would fall pretty quickly. In fact, the leaders would probably flea and go into exile in Moscow or Beijing within a few days of US troops on Iranian territory. However, we'd have to deal with insurrections constantly for several years and keep thousands of troops there long term. Do we have the stomach for that? If Iraq and Afghanistan are any indication, no.

And of course, we now have anti-war movements not only on the Left but also on the Right. I just don't see us having the resolve to pull it off.

And this one goes way back to around the time right after Mohammed. I think it was when Ali was assassinated (Ali's followers became the Shiites). Sunnis and Shiites tend to hate each other, maybe even more than they hate Christians and Jews.

No one is going to get what they want, like if they had 3 wishes from a genie in a bottle. Because of that everyone has to choose between tradeoffs. In order for everybody to actually have their highest priority satisfied, they will all have to make a set of choices that lead to peace. It will be an unstable peace. It will be a tense peace. Peace will also break down at times into war or other smaller conflicts. Then negotiation to set up another peace agreement is needed asap.

With a population of fanatics who think they get 64 + 8 virgins when they die as a martyr? Riiiiiiight.

MBS of Saudi Arabia interviewed — if Iran gets a nuclear weapon, we (SA) have to get one. And SA can afford it.

Iranian Politician Defends Death By Stoning ‘As Good Islamic Law’

Iranian politician defends stoning women to death as a good way to "protect women's rights.":confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

"Iranian conservative politician and former diplomat Javad Larijani has defended stoning for adultery, saying it is a good Islamic law protecting “family values.”

Stoning, or lapidation, is a method of capital punishment where people throw stones at a person until the subject dies from blunt trauma. It is attested as a form of punishment for unlawful sexual intercourse.

In an interview with Fars website of the Revolutionary Guard Saturday, Iran’s former Secretary of High Council for Human Rights claimed some good laws have been passed by the Islamic Republic to protect women's rights.

He said stoning is one of the good Islamic laws and has been a very nice deterrent so far."

“When we say our women should enter the community, we should have provided them with a very safe work and social environment,” added Larijani stressing that “Stoning is a very important restraining law to protect the marriage contract of families.”

Yeah Sangre, I confess I had some thoughts along those lines. Definitely might make someone think nice.
Ok back off all I’m not condoning it.

Meanwhile, Iran uses this opportunity to crack down on women who were not wearing their hijab scarves correctly.

Some Iranian women say they fear war with Israel amid violent hijab crackdown

I wonder if Israel is cracking down on women who have not properly covered their heads?

Starting a war with Iran would kill thousands of these women that you are concerned about. I would say being forced to wear a hijab is not near as bad as being killed. But that's just me.

Obviously no one on this board agrees with this law. But what is the point of posting this information here? Is this justification to start a war with Iran? Again if women shouldn't be killed by stoning for adultery, should they be killed in a war for the crime of being Iranian?

The Islamists may have overreached.

Per BBC - police presence is very heavy in Tehran. Anti-Regime Graffiti is appearing around Tehran. “Israel, bomb the supreme leader’s house next”, etc. The crackdown on women’s’ headdresses is part of this.

Inflation is now North of 40%.

There has been a rush on the stores for basics and things are running out.

The Iranian regime is worried. Like in Orwell’s 1984, they’re trying to deflect the people’s hatred away from the Regime and towards a foreign country. This ploy can backfire when your opponent’s military is superior. . See Argentina in the 1980s.

You are known by the company you keep.

A resolution condemning Iran’s attack on Israel was overwhelmingly passed in Congress. Voting against it were AOC, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Rashida Tlaib, Jamal Bowman, and a handful of other reps.

Yeah. Iran's government better be careful if they want to stay in power. Starting up wars to sway popular opinion can work. But it can also backfire, see Russia in 1917. If Russia would not have entered or stayed in WW1 the Bolsheviks wouldn't have been able to overthrow the Czar. Once your army is focused on an external enemy, the government is open to internal challenges, especially if the army is out of the country.
